History

Visy was established in 1994 as a machine vision technology company. Our first applications promoted quality control in Finland's market-leading paper industry. These applications are still in use today in paper factories, maintaining our customers' competitive advantage in the global market.

In 1996 Visy entered the maritime industry by developing optical character recognition (OCR) software for license plate recognition (LPR) and container number recognition. Our first system was delivered to the Port of Helsinki to automate their gate control process. The Visy system at the Port of Helsinki is still running, although greatly modified since the original installation. The changes that have taken place in the Port of Helsinki gate system exemplify the flexibility of Visy Access Gate.

In 1998 Visy entered the border traffic control market and delivered an automatic gate solution to Finnish Customs Agency. Today, this system is the largest EU border traffic control system and is the standard design on the continent.

Extensive research and development have led us to focus on the software side of gate automation while using commercial-off-the-shelf hardware (COTS). The reason is simple: by creating all software in-house by Visy engineers, and using only COTS hardware, our customers receive the best care and lowest risk in system design. All system software can be modified by Visy, all hardware can be replaced and maintained locally during regular service. By focusing on software and system design we solve the most complex access and area control issues for our customers and offer the best long term support and service.

Today, we still aspire to maintain our customers' competitive advantage in their respective markets. Our partners and customers include some of the largest and esteemed ports, terminals, customs agencies and integrators in the world. We are constantly seeking ways to improve our technology and level of service.
